Week in review July 5

Boo to vacation being over. Also, boo to not getting any of my review written before or during my vacation. That was quite a bit of silence for the last few weeks, and now I have several books to review that feel like I read ages ago. Oops. Oh well. It was a great vacation. Books read: Boundary Crossed – A thrilling start to a new series. Forever Grace – A perfectly sweet romance. Thirty Days of Red – Not so good, this felt very rushed and forced. The Memory Game – A sad story that was still really good. […]

Vacation! So nice. I managed to get a lot of reading done last week since I had several travel times. I don’t expect to get much done this week, so it balances out. Books read: Kitty Hawk and the Mystery of the Masterpieces – Another fun adventure, and one I’m happy to report that I enjoyed, unlike the last book in the series. The Book of Speculation – A very sad feeling book, but one that has some intriguing magic woven in. Bad Will Hunting – I started off really disliking the main character, but her growth was phenomenal to […]

Vacation countdown: only 2 more work days left! Then it’s a quick overnight trip to Vancouver, and then off to Ontario for 2 weeks. So excited! I was back for a visit in November, but this is the first time my son’s been back since we moved 2 years ago. I can’t believe the time has gone by so quickly. I still vividly remember our drive across the country. Books read: Rogue – Dark and still humourous, this was a great trilogy ender. The Library at Mount Char – This was like someone asked a high person what should be […]

Week in review June 7

June is flying by so quickly. I’m loving it since it means my vacation, and trip home to visit family, are almost here. I’m definitely in countdown mode already. Not really in book or reading mode, but I am still getting some books read, so at least there is progress, even if it feels like a snail’s pace to me. Books read: Shadow Scale – I’m going to be the odd man out here, because everyone has been loving this book, but I found it slow and almost boring. I did read it all, but my only real impression is […]

I mentioned last week that I thought summer had arrived, and I was right. Most days this week were hotter than average, reaching 26-27 Celsius (78-80F) every day. That is really warm for here. We spent a lot of time outside, often at the beach or waterpark, so I didn’t get much reading done. Books read: The Dragons of Heaven – I really wanted to like this, but it had a dual now and then narration that felt more like 2 different people, and I found it hard to follow the now story without the background provided in the then […]

I think summer is here. I had to pull out my capris twice this week, and switched to my lighter duvet. Yay for summer! Although we are supposed to have a really hot summer, so that’s not so welcome. Books read: Gwynneth Ever After – Such a sweet and satisfying romance that featured actual, realistic children. Two for the Dough – This was a rare case where the audio version seemed to hurt rather than enhance the story. It was still funny and amusing, but the voice just didn’t click with me. Books received: I’m still in a romance mood, […]

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! This week has actually been all about my son here. It was his 6th birthday on Thursday, and today is his birthday party. Hopefully the weather stays nice and we can have everyone running around in the backyard with the bouncy castle. Otherwise they’ll be all over the house. Books read: Being Emily – This is such a powerful story about a girl born in a boy’s body. It was a very captivating read. Once a Thief -Light-hearted and fun, this book was exactly was I was wanting at the time – a pure entertainment […]

Week in review May 3

It’s the first update of May! Oh, how quickly time flies! This past week felt quiet and slow while it was happening, but looking back, it seems more quick. I’m very excited that I found a good deal on a flight back to Ontario, so my son and I will be going on a vacation to see my family in June! It will be his first time back in almost two years, and only my second time. I’m looking forward to it so much! Books read: Revive – There were so many twists and reveals, that it’s going to be […]

So tired. That’s my summary of the week. I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve been exhausted all week. I napped after work most days, and went to bed early most nights, and I’m still super tired. Hopefully whatever this is will pass quickly and I’ll get some energy back so I can enjoy the mostly nice weather we’ve been having. Books read: The Well – This book had such an overwhelming melancholy feel, I had to read it in small chunks because the feeling of the book kept soaking into me. The ending was surprisingly satisfying though. Spider’s […]

This past week has been pretty quiet. The weather here is getting gorgeous, and yesterday was beautiful t-shirt weather. By sheer coincidence, there was a midway in town this weekend, so we went there for a few hours yesterday. My son had lots of fun on the rides. I think his favourite was a tie between the giant slide and the dragon rollercoaster. I went on the later one with him, and while I used to love rollercoasters when I was younger, I don’t think I’m a huge fan anymore. But he loved it, so that’s what matters. Books read: […]
