Help Choose My Design Giveaway

So I mentioned that I was thinking of changing my design. I created a new one, but I can’t decide if I should switch or not. So obviously the easy thing to do is ask everyone what they think. And I will bribe you to speak up, of course. Should I keep my current look with my zebras, turquiose, purple and yellow? Or should I switch to a more sophisticated look that I created with yellow, peach and brown? Check out the full look here. Vote using Rafflecopter below so I can bribe you, but I would love to hear […]

Lunchtime shenanigans. That’s what I love about my work. I work in an office with mostly women, and a few “token” guys. At lunch most of us eat together, and there is max 3 guys that join us, with only one of them joining in the crazy conversations all the time. It is obviously he either has a bunch of sisters, or has only ever worked with mostly women because he has no problem speaking up, regardless of the topic. For the sake of this story, let’s call him D, because while I may tell personal stories from time to […]

Book Blogger Confessions: Obligations

Book Blogger Confessions is a twice a month meme hosted by Tiger’s All Consuming Media and For What It’s Worth that aims to generate conversation about some of the issues book bloggers face. July16th: What do we owe publishers and authors? If we accept ARC’s do we “owe” anything to them or just an honest review to our follower? As book bloggers are we obligated to do more than just review books? Post covers – participate on tours – host guest posts? I am a book review blogger by choice in my spare time. My review policy clearly states I […]

Discussion: English Spelling Conventions

English Spelling Conventionsoriginally titled: Excuse Me, Your Americanism is Showing As a preface, this is not going to be a rant against Americans, but it may be a rant against people who don’t realize there are other countries and conventions other than their own. I recently came across a discussion about an author who received a bad review based on numerous misspellings in her book. Which is not unusual, but the misspellings turned out to be not true errors, but the British spellings of certain words. Now the bad review just seems rude and ignorant. In a world that gets […]

I guess I should do a BEA 2012 review post. They seem to be all the rage this week. My post is word heavy, and picture empty. Sorry in advance. I had a blast at BEA. I took a Greyhound bus there and back, which I would not really recommend as it was a 12 hour ride. That is just way too long on a bus. Also, it’s not easy to find, but the weight limit on bags is 50 lb. The baggage loaders will tell, or yell depending on where you are, the limit at you if your bag […]

Just a quick little note that I’m now on Twitter. I haven’t a clue how to use it yet, but my BEA roomies have promised to hook me and get me going smoothly. Come help me out or say hi. You will notice that there is now a Twitter icon on the top right with the other social buttons for easy finding.

Friday Leftovers Apr 27

This has seemed like a long week. The move is still not complete. There is still a bunch of little stuff to bring over, and a whole lot to take to the second hand store. Moving over multiple days is not good. Burn out happens very fast. I am so sick of moving stuff. I need to just buckle down and finish already. Other than that, nothing much is exciting around here. I hear there has been some mucho excitement and controversy around the book blogosphere, but like usual I am mostly avoiding it. I don’t intend to change anything […]

Friday Leftovers Apr 20

This week was all about moving. I am pretty much all moved now. Things went pretty smooth so far. It has been 2 solid days of moving, and there is still another load of small stuff to come, and a huge load to go to Valu Village. Yesterday evening I was really sick. I think I got a touch of heat or sun stroke. I was dizzy and nauseous for several hours. It was not fun. But prior to that, we got all the furniture moved. The kitchen is unpacked except for the fridge, the bathroom is unpacked except we […]

Friday Leftovers Apr 13

Happy Friday the 13th. I’m not superstitious, but there is something that always seems special about this day. There is such a stigma surrounding it that it always seems like something should happen on it. Of course, I’m hoping it’s an uneventful and easy day. I could use one of those. Next week I am moving. Thursday to be exact, so I might not be around as much as normal. I’m going to try to get all my posts scheduled this weekend so I don’t have to worry about them. I haven’t started packing yet at all. I don’t even […]

Discussion: Goodreads Groups

I love Goodreads. I cross-post all my reviews there, and use it to see what everyone else thinks of books. I try to Goodreads friend all the blogs I follow, and more, because I find it so fascinating to instantly see what everyone thought of a book. Especially when I have recently finished it. I look to see if my opinion matches others, and if what caugth my attention was the same that others saw. One part of Goodreads that I underutilize is the groups. I am a member of 10 groups, but I am only really active in 2. […]
