Review: Charming

Commence fangirling in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Awesomely terrific. This book had everything I love in an adult paranormal story. A hot main character who is snarky and sarcastic and oh so amusing. Lots of action. A lusty attraction that manages to stay clean, even while being very passionate. Did I mention the snarky sarcasm? This story set up an incredibly detailed, and believable, backstory about why paranormal creatures can be around in the modern world without being detected. This was an intriguing story, but it was long. Not just in length (over 400 pages), but also in feel. The story spans several years, so some length is expected, I found it to take a while to read. As soon as I started reading the story, I was struck by how much it reminded me of The Clan of the Cave Bear. Review: The Way of Shadows

This was a dark and violent story with incredibly intricate world building. The storyline was filled with twists and turns, including a number of unexpected surprises right near the end. In a book about assassins, violence is to be expected. There is a lot of it, in many different forms of abuse. But there is also hope and love. In an interview at the back of the book, the author says “There is darkness and grit in these books, but I think that’s balanced and ultimately overcome with hope and redemption”.
