Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty—when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II.

With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of Bacchants blowing in from Vegas with their special brand of deadly decadence, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt. But aided by his magical sword, his neighbor’s rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and his vampire attorney, Atticus is ready to sweep the town and show the witchy women they picked the wrong Druid to hex.

This series is something that is sheer fun to listen to. It’s not without its flaws, but this book is quirky and humourous, with enough originality to make it very enjoyable. There are some pop culture jokes that will make it dated quickly, but the biggest flaw is the lack of any non-gorgeous, not attracted to Atticus females. Just one “regular” female character would be nice.

Similar to the first book, my favourite character is Atticus’ dog Oberon, although the widow is creeping up there. She’s such a sassy old woman, and there is one scene whether Atticus is not very attired that is sheer hilarious.

Also similar to the first book, the audiobook narration is very good. There were a few rough spots in the first half where some of the voices seemed to be mixed up and sounding too similar to each other, but overall, the tone, speed and emphasis were spot on.

I’ve been on an urban fantasy kick lately, and this book, and entire series, suits my reading mood perfectly. There is action, adventure, sass and humour, all rolled into one. Coming up in the series is Thor, and I can’t wait to see what happens there.
