Jessie Jones is living the life–except for the fact that she earns it by working the streets. She’s been under pimp Spence’s thumb for fourteen years, and she isn’t looking for change. That is, until undercover cop Gabe walks into her life and offers her something she’s never had before: a love, a future, a home. But even if Jessie could walk away from Spence, there are darker forces of evil who want her to stay put, or worse, dead. In this romantic suspense, author Heather Huffman delivers an adventure from the vibrant streets of St. Louis to the caves of the Ozarks as Jessie discovers whether she can love another, whether she can love herself, and whether any of it is enough.

This was a fun and clean romance featuring an unapologetic prostitute. Jessie has a great sassy attitude, and is not shamed about what her life is like now, or in her past. This mindset leads to a very unique twist on a standard romance story.

The first half of the story really plays on the uniqueness of the story, and I loved it. Unfortunately, the second half of the story falls into standard romance territory. The finale is good, but doesn’t redeem the later half.

Overall, this was a good romance story that started off with a unique heroine, but then fell into a standard formula in the second half. There is lots of humour in the dialogue, and Jessie’s interactions with Milo are really cute. If you like sweet romance stories, I’d recommend this book for a quick weekend read.

  1. Kinda weird how this novel remained clean when its major character is a prostitute. Consider my interest piqued!
