I’ve decided to participate in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday list hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, even if I am quite late.
This week’s topic is Top Ten Best Sequels Ever. I am really bad at reading sequels. I read lots of book #1s, but then forget to read any other books in the series.
Looking at my 5 star lists for 2010-2013, I only have 5 book #2s listed as 5 star, with none so far this year. In order of newest read to oldest, they are:
- The Kingdom (Graveyard Queen #2) by Amanda Stevens
- Fire (Graceling Realm #2) by Kristin Cashore
- Ashen Winter (Ashfall #2) by Mike Mullin
- Blood Rock (Skindancer #2) by Anthony Francis
- The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium #2) by Stieg Larsson
I have read 3 book #2s that were 4 star reads this year:
- Scorch (Croak #2) by Gina Damico
- Unbelievable (Port Fare #2) by Sherry Gammon
- Twice as Deadly: The Deadlies: Book Two (The Deadlies #2) by A.C. Miller
I did have a number of 4 star reads for book #2 in 2012, but that would push my list over ten, so I guess I’ll stop at 8. My wishlist of Next-in-Series books is quite large, so it looks like I need to read more sequels!
I’ve been tempted to shift the day for TTT sometimes too. The only one of those books I’ve read is Ashen Winter, but I’ve heard good things about the Graceling books.
I actually haven’t read the first Graceling book yet. I picked up the second without knowing it was the 2nd. I will definitely be getting the first eventually. Apparently they are different enough that the order of reading shouldn’t matter, but I apparently need to read the first before the third.
