April 1st – How does blogging effect your *real* life? Are friends and family supportive? Do you find that blogging cuts into family time? How do you strike a balance between the two?

I consider blogging to *be* part of my real life. I make time for it every day, the same way I make time for reading. It’s a hobby that consumes a lot of time, but it’s something I really enjoy. It’s something that I do for me.

My friends and family are supportive, although they think nothing of interrupting me when I read or blog. Luckily, I am a quick reader and typer, so it doesn’t really occupy a lot of time each day.

I do most of my reading on the weekends, and schedule posts a day or two at time. When I am organized I can have up to 2 weeks written and scheduled ahead of time, however my level of organization goes up and down all the time.

I find that having a basic posting schedule helps to reduce the time blogging takes. If I know I will post a specific type of post each day, it takes less time to plan. I just need to ensure that I have enough reviews and author features lined up that I don’t end up with holes.

  1. Great discussion post. As a new blogger, I’m still finding that balance. Scheduling posts is a life saver for me. I get up early at the weekend to write 2 or 3 posts and do my commenting on other blogs. Sometimes, I’ll skip a break in work and write a book review instead. And I read while I’m in the gym! Also I don’t bother with TV much in the evenings, I’d rather read so that’s what I do 😀

  2. Wow, you managed to reach an impressive level of organization. I tend to write more on the spur of the moment instead. Or better, I try to have a post up every week, but this may involve me writing at odd moments of the day, when I have the time…or take it ;). The important thing is, I try not to turn blogging into working. Though I manage to actually blog at work sometimes LOL.

Also, I went to your About section, and discovered we have some interesting points in common. I didn’t really teach myself to read, but with my mum’s and grandma’s help, I was already reading by the age of four too. I’m uneasy around graphic erotic scenes too, and religious preaching turns me down completely.

  3. I rarely get ahead with my posts. I’m about 1 1/2 ahead for reviews right now which is unusual.

I had blogger burnout last year and I’m just coming around. I’m trying to balance everything a little bit more this year and it seems to be working. I’m lucky that my husband is super supportive about my blogging.

  4. Wow! You can get up to two weeks of posts ready to go ahead of time?! I am trying to schedule out posts to help me stay onto of things better now that my work schedule and home life have gotten crazy. Great post. 🙂
