As part of the blog tour for her novel The Watcher, I have author Lisa Voisin here to answer a few questions.
Thank you so much for having me on your site today. I am honored to be here.
What’s your favourite part of writing a book?
My favorite part about writing a book is living with a story inside my head. I immerse myself in the world of the story and the characters. It’s like a free vacation, being inside someone else’s skin. I may have things I’m doing but I’m also thinking and worrying about the characters as though they were real. I guess that sounds a little bit crazy when I put it that way!
What are your thoughts on ebooks? (i.e. love them, hate them, wave of the future)
I have mixed feelings about ebooks. I’ve had an ebook reader for a few years now and I love the convenience of it. I love being able to carry a bunch of books with me wherever I go and to be able to store a bunch of books without having to move into a bigger home.
All that being said, I also really love print books. I love being able to turn a page, and, overall, I find the experience of reading a printed book to be more enjoyable overall. Besides, print books never need their batteries recharged.
Do you write your book from page 1 to the end, or do you jump around?
I write the whole book from start to finish. I might get ideas as to where I’m going and map it out a bit in my journal, but I write straight through in sequence, so I can find out what happens next. Then, on the second draft, I’ll start to jump around. That’s when I bring in more layers of detail and dimension.
What input, if any, did you have in the cover design?
I was thrilled when Inkspell included me in the cover design. They asked for examples of covers I liked, what style I wanted, and what I’d like to see on the cover. I made a board on Pinterest with images that I thought matched some of the scenes in the book. Then, I showed it all to Naj, the cover artist, and she made magic happen from there!
Which of your characters is your favourite?
I’d have to say I’m very fond of Michael. He’s lived inside my head for some time, and I’ve come to know him better than members of my own family. I’m always finding out new things about him too, especially about his past.
A Canadian-born author, Lisa Voisin spent her childhood daydreaming and making up stories, but it was
her love of reading and writing in her teens that drew her to Young Adult fiction.
A self-proclaimed coffee lover, Lisa can usually be found writing in a local café. When she’s not writing,
you’ll find her meditating or hiking in the mountains to counteract the side effects of drinking too much
Though she’s lived in several cities across Canada, she currently lives in Vancouver, B.C. with her fiancé
and their two cats.
Millennia ago, he fell from heaven for her.
Can he face her without falling again?
Fascinated with ancient civilizations, seventeen-year-old Mia Crawford dreams of becoming an archaeologist. She also dreams of wings—soft and silent like snow—and somebody trying to steal them.
When a horrible creature appears out of thin air and attacks her, she knows Michael Fontaine is involved, though he claims to know nothing about it. Secretive and aloof, Michael evokes feelings in Mia that she doesn’t understand. Images of another time and place haunt her. She recognizes them—but not from any textbook.
In search of the truth, Mia discovers a past life of forbidden love, jealousy and revenge that tore an angel from Heaven and sent her to an early grave. Now that her soul has returned, does she have a chance at loving that angel again? Or will an age-old nemesis destroy them both?
Ancient history is only the beginning.
