As part of the book tour for Hollywood Holiday, I have an interview with author Sasha Summers.
What inspired you to become a writer?
I found myself out of work. I’d always written, for me. But having all this time really amped up my productivity. I learned about a local Romance Writers of America chapter and went to a meeting… Which was one of those life-altering experiences, you know. When you realize, “THIS is what I’m supposed to be doing.” I started and have been writing like a crazy person since.
What kind of research did you do to write this book?
I don’t have to do too much research for the Red Carpet Series books, beyond locations. The characters in this series are front and center and I’ve been really lucky that they’ve been such fun, easy to work with characters. I guess that sounds weird, but writing for me is like that – I’m watching the characters dictate their story to me. Make sense? I do have another series that I have to do quite a bit of research for – The Loves of Olympus. It uses real history and mythology and I like to be accurate.
Do you read reviews written about your book?
I’m trying NOT to… but YES, I do. It’s horrible. A good review will make me feel like I’m THE Queen of Romance. Bad reviews – “WHY am I writing? What was I thinking? I’ve no talent – at all.” It’s really not healthy.
Do you keep track or write reviews for books you read?
I do. I try to review on Goodreads and Amazon. At the same time, I don’t post negative reviews. I let the ratings speak for themselves If it’s a really deplorable book, it’s hard not to warm people away – but I just can’t bring myself to bash books in the open. Now that I’m out there as an author, I know these books are like our ‘kids’.
What types of promoting do you do?
This is the hard part for me. I try to blog, tweet, FB, and review – but I’m still on a promoting/social media learning curve. It’s hard to be out there without being overly aggressive and chasing readers away, you know? You do what you can and hope the book will gain readers/fans that help promote it.
Sasha is part gypsy. Her passions have always been storytelling, Hollywood, history, and travel. It’s no surprise that her books include a little of each. Her first play, ‘Greek Gods and Goddesses’ was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She’s been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she’s doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.
All she wants for Christmas is for Hollywood to love her again. But once she meets him, her Christmas list changes.
Jen’s only Christmas wish: Hollywood falling back in love with her. Meeting ex-Marine Gunner was a bonus. She likes that he isn’t impressed by celebrities or the movie biz. She likes that he’s funny and sweet … and drop-dead gorgeous. And she loves that he has no idea who her alter-ego is: Jen Fleming, Hollywood bad-girl and paparazzi target number one. Why ruin an amazing affair when he’s leaving after the new year?
But the closer they get, the harder she falls, and the more she wants to tell Gunner everything. Especially once he shares his secret with her.
Her new Christmas wish: Gunner accepts and loves her for who she really is.
