It’s hard to believe that Christmas is less than 2 weeks away. It just doesn’t feel like the holiday season to me. One thing that the Christmas season seems to bring is an abundance of holiday themed books.

I have to share a secret with you: I don’t enjoy holiday themed books. Call me the Grinch, but I just find them cheesy and not something I want to read at Christmas.

I am not big on themed books at any time (Valentine’s Day or Halloween included), but there is something extra about holiday books. Maybe it’s the completely predictable endings with everyone finding love and happiness. Yes, that formula is present in many books, but for some reason the Christmas books grate on me.

Am I alone in this odd bookish dislike? Do you enjoy holiday books?

  1. There are some beautifully illustrated Christmas picture books I really enjoy, like The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey. You might even like that one, Sarah. It has a more understated, quiet feel to its “feel-good”-ness.

Aside from picture books, though, I agree. I haven't found any that I care for so far.

  2. I've never read a 'holiday' themed book, and to be honest, I don't think I ever will.

    I'm with you, scrooge 😉
