On My Wishlist is a weekly meme hosted by Book City Chick. Every week I’ll introduce you to a book that’s on my extensive To-Be-Read list. Sometimes they are new books, but quite often they aren’t. Let me know if you’ve read it, and what you think.

Whiskey Sour (Jack Daniels Mystery #1) by JA Konrath

Lieutenant Jacqueline Daniels is having a bad week. Her live-in boyfriend has left her for his personal trainer, chronic insomnia has maxed out her credit cards with late-night home shopping purchases, and a frightening killer who calls himself “The Gingerbread Man” is dumping mutilated bodies in her district.

Between avoiding the FBI and their moronic profiling computer, joining a dating service, mixing it up with street thugs, and parrying the advances of an uncouth PI, Jack and her binge-eating partner Herb must catch the maniac before he kills again…and Jack is next on his murder list.

Whiskey Sour is full of laugh-out-loud humor and edge-of-your-seat suspense, and it introduces a fun, fully drawn heroine in the grand tradition of Kinsey Millhone, Stephanie Plum, and Kay Scarpetta.

I love law thrillers/mysteries. They rarely have great female leads, so I’d love to try this one. I also love the idea of lots of humour. Too often mysteries are overly serious, so it would be refreshing to have some comedy mixed in. This is the first in a series of seven books, so there are lots more stories to jump into after finishing this one.

  1. I love that this is Jack Daniels Mysteries and the title is Whiskey Sour. Do you know if they are all like this? What a great idea!

My wishlist is pretty full this week.

  2. Lisa, they're all named after drinks (Bloody Mary, etc.). I've always wanted to try a Konrath since he's rather famous – infamous? lol I hope you get to pick this up soon, it sounds really funny.

  9. This week I'm wishing for a new book by Sarah Weeks. Please come see what it is.

  10. I listened to that book and you're right it was very funny and it moves along at a good steady pace. I did not like the gory, vicious part of it but after I vomited I finished the book. So when I read the next one in the series and the same psycho is back again I just couldn't deal with it.
To graphic on the torture bits. Otherwise It is a fun, fast, and hilarious read.

  11. Side note here. I did download Shaken by J. A. Konrath to give the author another chance. lol
I'm hoping it will be full of the sassy humor of the other books and not so much on tortures.
    Happy Reading to you all
