Today let’s talk book tours. Not the physical tours where the author goes from town to town, but the online version going from blog to blog. A quick look at my sidebar will show that I play host for a number of different book tour companies.
I love book tours. They are a great way to find new books. They also help generate buzz about a book or an author through exposure repetition. I love how accessible they make the author, as they contribute guest posts or interviews, and often stop by to reply to commenters.
I can only imagine the work that goes into setting up and running a tour. Co-ordinating hosts with dates, features and book copies. Helping authors get those features done and out to hosts. A lot of work, but I’m sure it’s very rewarding.
I love participating in book tours, even if I am getting pickier about choosing which ones I participate in. That is only because my reading time is limited. If I could, I would join in every one, and read and review every book. Since I can’t, I try to join review-required ones where I want to read the book, and non-review-required ones when I know I wouldn’t have time to read.
What about you? Do you participate in book tours? Do you visit multiple blogs if a tour catches your eye? Does having a final stop or grand prize giveaway affect your visits to tour stops?
