My discussion topic this week is indie audiobooks. I love audiobooks, and always have one playing in my car while I drive. This week I have been doing a lot of “busy work” type stuff at work since I am not trained yet. A perk is that I am able to listen to an mp3 audiobook while I work.

This got me thinking that since I haven’t really had time to read this week, I wish some of my review books were available in audio format. Since they are mostly self-published books, this isn’t really an option. Which got me thinking, are there any indie/self-published audiobooks? Is this a good business idea?

What does it take to produce an audiobook? How much would it cost? How and where would you market it?

It makes me wish I wasn’t working so I had the time to investigate further. Since I don’t, I’ll open it to you. What do you think of the idea?

  1. I didn't even thought about this. That's a good question. I have no idea!

  2. This is a good question. I know an author who was doing her own audio but I'm not sure how she was distributing it except through her blog.
I did see a service recently and I plan to look into this for my pub company. I'll try to remember to let you know what I find out. 🙂
