This Friday I was going to discuss book genres. But something else has been pressing on me, so I’m going to discuss and ask for some advice on post frequency.

I have a specific posting schedule that I usually follow:
Monday-Thursday are book reviews
Friday was blog hop, and is now a discussion post
Saturday is for On My Wishlist
Sunday is for In My Mailbox
Giveaways are posted either instead of a review post, or for hops, whenever it is scheduled to start

I like this schedule, but I am finding that I am reading a lot of books, and have more reviews then scheduled posting days. Up to now I have been simply scheduling them for the next available open date. But I am getting quite a future-log. As of today, I only have 3 review dates still open near the end of July. Which means I am almost fully scheduled for the next two months!

That seems really far in the future to me. I feel bad reading and writing a review, and then not posting it until that far in the future.

So I’ve been thinking about how to reduce my future-log. Should I post reviews 7 days a week,  in addition to my weekend non-review posts, which gives me an extra 3 posts? Or should I start posting 2 reviews on my review days? I did this a while ago when I posted fiction reviews in the AM and non-fiction/children reviews in the PM. Or should I just keep scheduling into the future?

What do you think I should do?

  1. My suggestion would be to post more than once per day. If you schedule them to post at (for instance) 5am and then again at 3pm, everyone should still have time to see both of them. Two posts per day will bring more traffic to your blog, too. 🙂 Just my two cents.

  2. I agree with Theresa, two posts at two different times will bring in more traffic and if you post them at two different times, someone who may not have seen your review in the morning might see it that afternoon or night. 😉

  3. I'm with Loren and Theresa. Nothing says you can't post two a day. If you have two books by the same author or on the same subject you could also do a review and contrast kind of thing in one post. Not necessarily recommending one over the other – just contrasting.

  4. Wow. That is a ton of reviews! I don't know how you keep up with that, it takes me a while to write my reviews and I'm usually pretty good at procrastinating:) I know a lot of blogs that post 2 reviews per day, so it seems like that might be the thing to try and see how it works!

  5. Thanks for the advice, I will try 2 posts a day and see how it goes.

  6. I love reading reviews. I check most of the blogs I follow daily with the emails I receive. I try to almost always leave a comment even if it is just to say hi and thanks for sharing because I feel your hard work should be recognized and you should know I appreciate you efforts. I think time wise it would be difficult for me to check in more than once a day, but I would read the review tacked on to the “scheduled” post for the day and find that pleasurable.

  7. Great discussion! I had the same type of question–I hate the idea of overwhelming by posting too often. Now that I am learning to schedule posts to auto post at specific times, I think I will give it a whirl too. Thanks so much for posting such a great question and to those who have responded with their advice. 🙂

    Happy Reading!
