The Society makes all your choices. They decide who you will marry, what you will do, and what you will learn. When Cassia is matched with her best friend Xander, she couldn’t be happier. But when there is a glitch and she sees Ky’s face as her match, things start to go wrong. Cassia finds herself thinking of Ky more and more, and begins to doubt the wisdom of the Society’s choices.
This is one of the better dystopian teen stories I’ve read this year. The world is very realistic and believable. Like something that could actually happen in the future, which makes it scary. Everything seems developed, down to the last detail, and nothing seemed out of place.
Cassia seemed like a real teenager. She starts off believing everything the Society tells her and obediently follows all the rules without thinking of anything else. This changes based on a glitch in the Matching ceremony when she sees a glimpse of Ky’s face instead of her actual match. What follows is a very clean, innocent teenage love story.
The reason I gave this a 4 star rating was the ending. I am not a fan of open-ended stories. Just because this is the first in a series, does not mean the story sould just stop. There still need to be an ending with some kind. This would have been easy to accomplish by just leaving out a few of the “will happens” that were mentioned right at the end. Then the story would have been complete.
